Life is normally so fast paced that we do not tend to notice the importance of having time for reflection and focus on our health and well-being, but instead tending to bury and "cope" with everyday life. However with our contemporary lives at a halt with the unprecedented events of Covid-19, the importance of Arts in supporting our health and well-being has become ever more integral.
As a collaborative collective we have been exploring the endless benefits of Arts on our health & well-being in various settings or stages of our lives, i.e. community outreach programs, Universities, care homes, hospitals, etc - We had the opportunity to first hand experience Arts vital role in supporting the health care sector through our collaboration with Lime Arts and NHS Manchester University (MFT) who engages staff and patients in complex hospital settings with creative workshops.

For the past few months we have been developing a project to improve the environment of the Elderly Care Unit at the hospital. Having had the privilege of visiting the ward and having a dialogue with the staff to consider the possibilities of our ideas; as we had to take into account many health and safety concerns, as well as having compassion for the personal needs of the patients - many having conditions such as Dementia/Alzheimer's. It became clear that the ward was lacking in vibrancy and caused confusion for some patients - meaning it needed various artworks to be displayed throughout the ward so they can become memorable pointers for patients when walking around the space.
Ward 45 patients tend not to be able to see or to go outside meaning they do not have any connection with the natural world - therefore it was clear that this was something that we would focus on - bringing the outside world of Manchester into the ward. Focusing mainly on creating a vibrant entrance to the ward as well creating individual frameworks that will be curated throughout the corridors of the ward. These pieces would feature organic depictions of nature or memorable areas of Manchester that many of the patients would recognize.
