Idea 1 / Sensory wall
This would be in the smaller day room; the space is over whelming with visual objects / pieces of text. We have been informed some of the patients don’t use the space because they feel uncomfortable in it. A sensory wall made up of tactile objects, sounds and smells could make the space for appealing and comforting to the patients.
The plan would for it to be built behind the sofa so that they could sit and touch it.

It would contain elements such as:
Calming coloured textiles.
Knitted/ crochet 3D pieces.
Visually engaged pieces.
Tactile pieces such as lino cuttings.
Can be enjoyed by staff and visitors as well.
Idea 2 / Sensory Trolley
This idea is based on the wall however it would mean for patients that aren’t as mobile could still enjoy the elements, the nurses or visitors could bring them the trolley which as mean they could pick what they are interested in, creating a sense of confidence within them. The trolley would be of metal or plastic material making it easy to clean. I also think we would need to consider what material the sensory items were made of as they also would need to be cleaned regularly.

Again though the elements would contain the core necessities:
Calming coloured textiles.
Knitted/ crochet 3D pieces.
Visually engaged pieces.
Tactile pieces such as lino cuttings.
Can be enjoyed by staff and visitors as well.
Idea 3 / Mural.
One collective idea is a mural of some kind in the hallway or day room. If it were in the hall way, it could be placed in the cabinets behind the glass. This way the mural could be made from fabric or paper. Style wise I was thinking a painted illustrative style, this way it wouldn’t be to abstract for the patients, yet also not just a basic photograph.
The mural could be scenes of nature like the sea and forest, but also of old buildings like cathedrals and shops.
